Hi, I'm Miriam!

I’m a certified Birth Doula with Childbirth International (CBI). Originally from Germany, my husband and I moved to beautiful Charleston, SC in 2013. My focus is to support you to create an environment for a gentle, calm and peaceful childbirth. I will create a safe atmosphere where you feel confident, peaceful and prepared for the birth of your baby, in the location of your choice. This is a life changing time and my wish is for you to feel heard, supported, and empowered. I am also happy to support German speaking mothers to create a gentle experience of child birth in a foreign environment.

What is a doula?

The word "Doula“ comes from the Ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves“ and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced non-medical professional, who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother and her partner before, during and just after birth. Studies have shown, that when doulas attend birth, it can lead to reduced cesarean rates, shorter labor times and increased overall satisfaction with the birthing experience.

I would be honored to support you during your pregnancy, birth & breastfeeding journey

My husband and I reached out to Miriam when we were preparing for the birth of our second child. I wanted an unmedicated hospital birth after feeling uneducated and unprepared with our first child. I wanted to have a doula present to help with labor positions, advocating for me, and creating a better atmosphere.

I’m so glad we had Miriam there because she did all those things and more. I ended up having a quick unmedicated labor and birth experience, just how I wanted. Miriam created a calming environment and taught my husband how to apply heat and pressure during contractions. She knew which positions would help me feel most comfortable during labor. She encouraged me the whole time and helped me breathe. Her presence was vital for me staying in control. She was also very informative and accessible during the months leading up to birth. She truly cares about creating better experiences for the women she serves. I would highly recommend Miriam for anyone wanting more support and a calming presence during birth.
